30 January 2014 – As the decision on the request of the Philippines for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation by the US government enters its third month, the Consulate General held a multi-sectoral town hall meeting last January 28, where Consul General Mario L. De Leon, Jr. called on different sectors of the community to partner with the Philippine Government in lobbying for the US government's approval of the TPS.

The Japanese Children's Society, based in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, gave a check donation of $807 to the Philippine Jesuit Foundation for the "Build A Shelter Project" of the Filipino American community in US Northeast. The project, conducted in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in New York, aims to build permanent shelters for the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

24 January 2014, New York – Two months after its launch, the Philippine Consulate General New York and the US Northeast community have raised enough funds for its Build A Shelter Project (BASP) to start construction in some of the worst-hit towns of super typhoon Yolanda last November. Philippine Jesuit Foundation (PJF), a 501(c)3 organization with presence in New York and the Visayas, works with the BASP co-conveners in collecting the funds, while Gawad Kalinga (GK), a non-profit organization known in the Philippines for their charitable housing projects, will be the men-on-the-ground and responsible for implementing construction plans in the affected areas.
