NY PCG Commemorates the 26th Anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution

peoplepower2NEW YORK – In celebration of the 26th Anniversary of the EDSA Revolution, the Philippine Consulate General New York will be hosting a series of activities to remind the community of what the Filipino people showed the world more than a quarter of a century ago. In honor of the heroism of the thousands who flocked to EDSA in the closing days of February 1986, the Philippine Consulate General will be holding:

A "Tertulia" (a discussion - gathering) on the People Power Revolution on Thursday, 23 February 2012. We invite the community to come, listen, learn and participate in the conversation. The event will start 6:30 pm at the Kalayaan Hall Annex;

• A Flag Raising ceremony on Saturday, 25 February 2012 at 9:30 am at the Lobby of the Philippine Center;

• Documentary films on the 1986 People Power Revolution will be screened at the public areas of the Philippine Center from 20-25 February 2012. Those who are interested in knowing more about this watershed moment in Philippine history are invited to view the films at the Lobby and the waiting areas at the 3rd floor and the Basement of the Philippine Center;

• There will likewise be a mini-exhibit of EDSA People Power memorabilia at the Lobby of the Philippine Center throughout the week;

• The Consulate will also be providing Weekend Services on Saturday, 25 February 2012. Applications for Passports, Visas, Legalization of Documents, Dual Citizenship and all consular transactions will be processed from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Teams of volunteers from the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society in America (UPMASA) and the Filipino-American Legal Defense Fund (FALDEF) will respectively conduct a Wellness/Health Seminar and a Legal Clinic on the same day.
