“Alab ng Puso” Displays Filipino Patriotism in Philadelphia Street Mural


18 June 2013 – The Filipino community in Philadelphia has one more thing they can be proud of: the very first outdoor mural in the East Coast dedicated to the Philippines. Last 15 June 2013, the Filipino-American Association of Philadelphia (FAAPI) led by President Dr. Rommel Rivera and the City of Philadelphia Murals Arts Program unveiled "Alab Ng Puso" (Hearts Ablaze) located along Bustleton Avenue, Rhawnhurst in Northeast Philadelphia. Present in the event were Consul General Mario De Leon, Jr.; Councilman David Oh of the Philadelphia City Council; Ms. Jane Golden, Executive Director of the Mural Arts Program; Dr. Aida Rivera, State Chair for Pennsylvania of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFA); and Mr. Eliseo Art Silva, the mural artist. The Filipino community in the area as well as neighboring cities came to witness the inauguration of the future landmark.
