PUBLIC ADVISORY: UPDATES ON HURRICANE HENRI<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Philippine Consulate General in New York reiterates its urgent call for members of the Filipino Community in New York and New England to brace themselves for Hurricane Henri, which is expected to sweep through the area beginning this evening.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Kababayan are urged to heed instructions from authorities, particularly in areas where a state of emergency has been declared such as parts of New York, including Long Island, New York City, and Hudson Valley, and Rhode Island, and where emergency preparations are underway such as Connecticut.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Hurricane Henri is expected to bring damaging winds, three to six inches of rain with isolated totals of up to 10 inches and up to five feet of storm surges that could raise water levels near the coast and be accompanied by large and dangerous waves.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Below is a summary of watches and warnings in effect for areas in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, from the National Weather Service:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

A Storm Surge Warning, which means that there is a danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, during the next 36 hours in the indicated locations, is in effect for:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

\u2022 South shore of Long Island from Mastic Beach to Montauk Point, New York<\/div>\n
\u2022 North shore of Long Island from Montauk Point to Flushing, New York<\/div>\n
\u2022 Flushing, New York to Chatham, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts<\/div>\n
\u2022 and Block Island, Rhode Island<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

A Storm Surge Watch, which means that there is a possibility of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, in the indicated locations during the next 48 hours, is in effect for:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

\u2022 East Rockaway Inlet to Mastic, New York<\/div>\n
\u2022 North of Chatham,<\/div>\n
Massachusetts to Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts<\/div>\n
\u2022 Cape Cod Bay<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

A Hurricane Warning, which means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, is in effect for:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

\u2022 South shore of Long Island from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point<\/div>\n
\u2022 North shore of Long Island from Port Jefferson Harbor to Montauk Point<\/div>\n
\u2022 New Haven, Connecticut to west of Westport, Massachusetts<\/div>\n
\u2022 Block Island, Rhode Island<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

A warning is typically issued 36 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

A Tropical Storm Warning, which means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours, is in effect for:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

\u2022 Port Jefferson Harbor to west of New Haven, Connecticut<\/div>\n
\u2022 South shore of Long Island from west of Fire Island Inlet to East Rockaway Inlet<\/div>\n
\u2022 Westport to Chatham, including Martha’s Vineyard , and Nantucket, Massachusetts<\/div>\n
\u2022 Coastal New York and New Jersey west of East Rockaway Inlet to Manasquan Inlet, including New York City.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Kababayan residing in the aforementioned areas as well as those living in surrounding areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to monitor developments on the movement of the storm.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

Kababayan are also urged to immediately undertake other necessary preparations to protect life and property, such as securing homes and boats, fueling up vehicles and stocking up on canned goods, water and other supplies, as well as charging electronic devices, and preparing flashlights and generators.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

The Philippine Consulate General will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with leaders of the Filipino Community in affected areas under its jurisdiction.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
