NEW YORK \u2013 In the spirit of <\/span>bayanihan<\/span><\/i>, various Filipino singers gathered together to lift their voices in a night of music and history at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Midtown Manhattan on Friday, 29 October 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Entitled <\/span>Santinig<\/span><\/i> (One Voice), the concert capped off Filipino-American History Month with Filipino songs of pride, heroism, and unity, carefully selected to highlight milestones in the nation\u2019s history, from the pre-colonial period down to the Spanish, Japanese, and American eras, and finally to the Philippines of today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

With the power of one voice, talents from the Kayumanggi Chorale, Bayanihan Singers of Union, the FilharmoniX Choir, as well as guest performers, Rogelio Pe\u00f1averde Jr., Joy Tamayo, and Vice Consul Paolo Marco R. Mapula serenaded over 100 attendees with \u201cBayan Ko,\u201d \u201cPilipinas Kong Mahal,\u201d \u201cLupang Hinirang,\u201d and \u201cBati Bati \u2018Di Hati Hati,\u201d amongst others.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIn my interactions with the leaders and members of our vibrant community, my message always revolved on bayanihan\u2014on how we could work together for the common good.\u00a0 Santinig is such a great example of what we can do when we work together,\u201d Consul General Elmer G. Cato said in his welcome remarks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Before he ended his speech, Consul General Cato highlighted a stanza from the song, \u201cBati Bati \u2018Di Hati Hati\u201d (by composer Jewpeter Vidal and songwriter Garry Sibal), which he says encapsulates the essence of <\/span>bayanihan:<\/span><\/i><\/p>

Isang bansa ang ating kinalalagyan
<\/span><\/i>Isang lahi ang ating kinagisnan
<\/span><\/i>Iba-iba man ang kulturang kinalakihan
<\/span><\/i>Ikaw at ako ay dangal ng bayan.
<\/span><\/i>Ang ating kulay ay hindi dilaw o pula

<\/span><\/i>Isantabi natin ang pagkakanya kanya
