NEW YORK, 05 June 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The Philippine Consulate General in New York welcomed students and faculty from the University of Wisconsin\u2013Milwaukee for a special lecture titled \u201cUnderstanding the Philippines: Political System, Foreign Policy, and Global Role,\u201d delivered by Consul General Senen T. Mangalile.<\/span><\/p>

The visiting group, composed of undergraduate students in Political Science, International Relations, and Global Studies, is in New York for their Summer Seminar on International Politics and Foreign Policy.<\/span><\/p>

In his presentation, Consul General Mangalile provided an overview of the Philippines\u2019 political structure, development agenda, and foreign policy pillars. He emphasized the country\u2019s strategic role in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific, and highlighted the contributions of the Filipino diaspora and youth to the country\u2019s global identity.<\/span><\/p>

The lecture also covered key issues such as maritime security and the West Philippine Sea, the Philippines\u2019 ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026, and its bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the term 2027-2028.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThe Philippines may be a mid-sized country, but we speak with the weight of history, with the urgency of the present, and with the hopes of our people for a more peaceful and cooperative world,\u201d the Consul General stated.<\/span><\/p>

He also emphasized the evolving nature of diplomacy and its relevance to the next generation: \u201cDiplomacy today is no longer confined to embassies and formal meetings\u2014it happens in classrooms, communities, and through conversations like this,\u201d he added. \u201cAs future leaders and thinkers, you are already part of that global dialogue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The event forms part of the Consulate\u2019s continuing engagement with academic institutions and young leaders, reaffirming the Philippines\u2019 commitment to inclusive, forward-looking, and people-centered diplomacy.
