NEW YORK CITY, 17 October 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The spirit of camaraderie, culture, and shared heritage took center stage at \u201cHomecoming sa Konsulado 2025\u201d, a vibrant alumni homecoming-themed gathering of Filipinos in the northeast US held last 4 October 2025 at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center, New York.<\/span><\/p>

The event promoted the theme \u201cYakapin ang Pinagmulan, Ihanda ang Kinabukasan<\/em>\u201d (Embrace Our Roots, Prepare for the Future). This day-long event brought together around 125 Filipino alumni from 15 universities and colleges across the Philippines who are now residing in the Northeastern United States.<\/span><\/p>

Consul General Senen T. Mangalile opened the event, encouraging Filipinos abroad to show love for the Philippines through simple acts relevant to the developments in the Philippines \u2014 fighting misinformation, promoting tourism, supporting local artisans, and practicing kindness and unity. The gathering honored the role of education in shaping Filipino lives but also highlighted the deep connections and shared values that unite Filipinos, no matter where they are in the world. Participants came from early generations of Filipino migrants to the United States in the medical sector, as well as newly arrived recent generation professionals from various industries.<\/span><\/p>

Among the program\u2019s highlights was a lecture on appreciation and performance of Original Pilipino Music by the distinguished Dr. Raul Sunico, renowned pianist, educator, and cultural leader. In the afternoon, attendees gained valuable insights from Dr. Marivir R. Montebon, journalist and former president of the Fil-Am Press Club of New York, during her lecture on strategies and skills for effective organization promotion. Informative and engaging Q&A sessions after each presentation deepened discussions on cultural identity through music and effective strategies for promoting Filipino organizations abroad to ensure longevity and relevance.<\/span><\/p>

Cultural presentations featured a performance by an alumna from the Mindanao State University\u00a0 Dance Troupe as well as a serenade from 2022 and 2024 ALIW Awards Best Performing Artist Based Abroad Filipina singer Mauna Kea Chan. Engaging interactive segments featuring OPM Songs, Filipino snacks, and a group performance hosted by Dr. Michelle Llado-Wrzos (St. Scholastica), Mimi Samson (College of the Holy Spirit) and Noel Gamboa of UPAA-NJ added to the energetic atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>

Organizers also promoted Yaman, a Filipino cultural exhibition to be held at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, New York from 31 October to 2 November 2025. A trailer of \u201cFaith Healers\u201d, a documentary film to be screened at the SOHO International Film Festival featuring the stories of pioneer Filipino doctors and medical professionals was also shown. These aimed to showcase Filipino arts and culture to the northeastern US audience. Finally, custodian and community organizer Noel Gamboa promoted the regular clean up and maintenance drives of Little Manila Park in the borough of Queens, New York City.
