PROMOTING PHILIPPINE CULTURE The Philippine Consulate General in New York undertakes an annual calendar of activities that aims to promote the Philippine culture and engage the Filipino-American community. Promotion of culture, language, history, geography, music, poetry, dance, traditions, film, food, art and education. Kwentuhang Pambata engages the young Fil-Ams before bedtime through a night of storytelling with Filipino and Fil-Am authors and illustrators. This program will not only help in providing worthwhile activities for children who now have to study how but will also promote the works of Filipino children’s book writers.Paaralan sa Konsulado or PSK is a summer workshop for Filipino and Filipino-American children between the ages of 5 and 15, which aims to provide children born and raised in the USA opportunities to learn about their Filipino culture and heritage.Parol-Making Workshop & Contest is an activity for children and their families and Fil-Ams who have long been staying in the US and wish to recall and revive the parol-making tradition. Simbang Gabi sa Konsulado are evening masses held for nine consecutive nights in December. A Parol-lighting ceremony commences the night while a salu-salo follows after the mass.Philippine Independence Day Sinehan Sa Summer serves as a platform to show case Philippine cinema and works of emerging Filipino and Filipino-American filmmakers.Filipino Restaurant Week aims to promote Filipino restaurants, talented Filipino chefs, Filipino food and ingredient, to the American market. Art Exhibits at the Philippine Center New YorkPhilippine Studies Program at NYU Previous Next Observance and promotion of participation in milestones events and days Philippine Independence Day Previous Next Community engagement with Fil-Am leaders, alumni, academe, media, women, and the youth Fil-Am Community General Assembly is a gathering of leaders of Fil-Am community organizations in the US northeast yearly as an opportunity for the Consulate to update them on Post’s activities in the past year, and upcoming programs and projects for the following year. It provides an opportunity for the community organizations to simulate more collaboration and cooperation, not just with the Consulate but also between their organizations.Homecoming sa Konsulado is a gathering of alumni from Philippine colleges and universities. Fil-Am Academe Networking event serves as an opportunity to gather Fil-Am in the academe and discuss potential partnership, programs and activities particularly those that engage the second and third generation Filipinos. Virtual Fil-Am Health Forum on COVID-19 is an avenue for the Filipino medical practitioners to inform the Fil-Am community about relevant topics related to COVID-19. ConGen's Media HourCarbo-Loading Reception for Filipino Runners at NYC Marathon serves as the Consulate's welcome and send off event for Filipino runners participating in the New York City Marathon. An Evening with Distinguished Filipino Women features remarkable Filipino and Filipino-American women achievers who have raised the profile of Filipinos and the Philippines by achieving excellence in their chosen fields. Fil-Am Women Entrepreneurship Forum features Fil-Am women who started new ventures and could inspire and empower women by sharing their narratives. Networking for Filipino Law Students in NYPhilippine Graduation brings together Filipino and Filipino-American graduates of bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees in the US northeast to march together in a graduation ceremony at the Philippine Center’s Kalayaan Hall.
