PH Consulate General in New York visits Boston Metropolitan Area in Massachusetts for trade and investment opportunities The Philippine Consulate General in New York, led by Consul General Senen T. Mangalile, undertook a visit to Massachusetts on 20-21 May to explore trade and investment opportunities. The tour included high-level meetings and visits to renowned research and development (R&D) institutions to foster collaboration between the Philippines and the Boston Metropolitan Area, particularly in innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. On 20 May, the delegation met with the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion under Boston City Mayor Michelle Wu. Discussions centered on the comparative advantage of the Philippines in developing plant-based fibers such as abaca, banana, and pineapple. Boston representatives highlighted resources, including the Silklab at Tufts University, and its active partnerships with U.S.-based business incubators Sagely, Scroobious, and SeaAhead. They expressed strong interest in supporting the expansion of Filipino enterprises into the U.S. market. (Photo by Mr. Jose Magaso) NEW YORK, 27 May 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in New York successfully conducted its first Consular Outreach Mission of the year in Bristol City, Hartford County, Connecticut on 24 and 25 May 2024. The mission served nearly 150 Filipinos residing in Connecticut and neighboring states. The outreach mission was conducted in partnership with the Pilipino Association of Connecticut, Inc. (PACI), led by its President, Mr. Bienvenido Balaoing, and took place at the community center of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on both days. The range of consular services offered included passport application and renewal, retention and reacquisition of Philippine citizenship under RA 9225 (Dual Citizenship), civil registration, and the legalization and notarization of documents. (Photo by: Nikka Arenal) To celebrate Philippine National Heritage Month, the Philippine Consulate General in New York and Sentro Rizal New York featured “Once Upon the Sun & Sea: Indigenous Stories and Folk Tales from the Philippines” by authors Jo Tiongson-Perez and Denise Orosa at a book reading that drew a diverse crowd of approximately 50 attendees, including 25 children.  Before reading three stories from their book, Tiongson-Perez and Orosa shared how they visited various indigenous communities in the Philippines to curate the eleven stories that they then translated into English. “We wanted to widen the space for children’s stories beyond the Western classics by authors such as Hans Christian Andersen and Brothers Grimm by presenting folk tales from our indigenous communities which children from all backgrounds can also relate with,” said Tiongson-Perez.
