New York PCG celebrates Filipino Food Month with flavors and festivities through ‘HANDOG’ The Filipino community and non-Filipino food enthusiasts in New York enjoy the wide array of Filipino food items and products, such as coconut jam, ube jam, and snacks, during HANDOG. (Photo by Ruth Galiza) The Philippine Consulate General in New York, in collaboration with Hotel Edison, proudly presented “HANDOG: An Exquisite Showcase of Filipino Flavors and Festivities,” a two-day cultural event held on 05 and 26 April. This event was organized as part of the Consulate’s initiatives for this year’s Filipino Food Month with the theme, “Kalutong Filipino, Lakas ng Kabataang Makabago.”HANDOG showcased diverse food items and products crafted either in the Philippines or by Filipino artisans or entrepreneurs based in New York, focusing on captivating non-Filipino audiences. The Consulate partnered with Likha Art Cafe and Euneka Cakes & Drinks, aligning with the Consulate’s commitment to supporting Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and fostering economic empowerment within the community.Attendees were treated to captivating performances by Filipino cultural groups and performers, such as Kinding Sindaw, the University of the Philippines Alumni & Friends Rondalla, International Women Artists Inc., and the Philippine Cultural Community Organization. (Photo by: Joey Magaso) The Philippine Consulate General in New York and Sentro Rizal New York presented “An Afternoon of Filipino Classical Music” on 13 April at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center. The event showcased the world-class Filipino talents of Mr. Joed Balsamo on piano and Mr. Norman Menzales on flute.   Drawing over 100 attendees, the event transported guests through a repertoire inspired by the works and legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal.
