PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN NEW YORK AND NEW YORK UNIVERSITY SIGN THE DEED OF DONATION The Philippine Consulate General in New York announces the successful signing of the Deed of Donation to New York University (NYU) for their Philippine Studies Initiative, named Sulô. The signing ceremony took place on 20 December 2023 at the NYU’s King Juan Carlos Center, marking the continued collaboration between the Philippine Government and the NYU. The Deed of Donation, signed by Consul General Senen T. Mangalile and Mr. Ryan Hiers of the NYU Office of Sponsored Programs, transfers to the NYU a substantial contribution from the Office of Senator Loren Legarda in of the Philippine Studies Initiative at NYU. This is a testament to the longstanding commitment of the Filipino government and its representatives to fostering international partnerships and advancing education. THE PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN NEW YORK KICKS OFF THE 18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN NEW YORK – The Philippine Consulate General in New York joins the observance in the Philippines of the 18 – Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women from 25 November 2022 to 10 December 2022 spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women. Every employee working in the Philippine Center is working tirelessly to help create safe public and private spaces. Notably the Consulate is firmly against abuse in all forms – whether it be verbal, physical, or emotional – and it will work with all like-minded institutions to help end gender-based violence once and for all.

(Photo by Nikka Arenal) Philippine Cuisine Showcased in the SOFC International Food Festival in New York NEW YORK – The Philippine Consulate General in New York actively took part in the 2023 International Food Festival organized by the Society of Foreign Consuls (SOFC) in New York at the Turkish House. The Consulate showcased an array of delectable Filipino dishes including pusit (squid) sisig by Mama Fina’s, ukoy (shrimp fritter) by Tito Rads, and ube bao by Kalye, accompanied by refreshing Philippine mango and calamansi (Philippine lime) juices. Fifteen other Consulates also offered dozens of culinary treats and beverages. Adding to the cultural celebration, C.E.B.U. Inc. presented an outstanding Sinulog performance. SOFC represents the Consular Corps in New York and is considered as the largest diplomatic community organization in the world. Consul General Mangalile is an elected member of the SOFC Executive Committee representing countries in Southeast Asia. The International Food Festival was participated in by the diplomatic and consular corps in New York and attended by over 200 guests. PHOTO EXHIBIT ON ARCHIPELAGIC STATES TAKES CENTER STAGE IN NEW YORK NEW YORK – The Philippine Consulate General in New York opened the exhibit entitled, “Archipelagic States: Identity, Consciousness and Law” at the Philippine Center in New York to highlight the Philippines’ unique identity as an archipelago and its contribution to the development of the archipelagic states regime in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).  The opening ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic and consular corps in New York as well as Master of Laws candidates from Cornell University, Harvard University, and Fordham University.   Philippine Consul General Senen Mangalile, in his welcome remarks, stated that “As an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, the Philippines championed the archipelagic principle, an important concept that unites land, water, and people into a single legal entity, in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS.”  He added that the eventual recognition and incorporation of the principle in the UNCLOS is a milestone in advancing the Philippine’s vital interest as an archipelagic state, and asserting its identity and territory as indelibly imprinted in its Constitution. Philippine Consulate General in New York Promotes Philippine Fiber and Textile Program in Rhode Island As part of its Philippine fiber and textile promotion program, the Philippine Consulate General in New York, together with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in New York, visited Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) on Friday the 13th of October 2023 to raise awareness of Philippine indigenous fibers and fabrics as well as explore opportunities for cooperation with their research centers. During the meeting with Brown University officials and design students, Consul General Senen T. Mangalile highlighted the Consulate’s overarching objective to promote Philippine fibers, textiles, and fabrics beyond the confines of the fashion industry. The emphasis was placed not only on fostering their integration within the fashion realm but also on exploring their diverse applications across various sectors.  The Philippine Consulate, together with PTIC, has also engaged with the officials of Drexel University Center for Functional Fabrics, Temple University Tyler School of Art and Architecture, and Thomas Jefferson University in August 2023.
