PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN NEW YORK AND NEW YORK UNIVERSITY SIGN THE DEED OF DONATION
The Philippine Consulate General in New York announces the successful signing of the Deed of Donation to New York University (NYU) for their Philippine Studies Initiative, named Sulô. The signing ceremony took place on 20 December 2023 at the NYU’s King Juan Carlos Center, marking the continued collaboration between the Philippine Government and the NYU.
The Deed of Donation, signed by Consul General Senen T. Mangalile and Mr. Ryan Hiers of the NYU Office of Sponsored Programs, transfers to the NYU a substantial contribution from the Office of Senator Loren Legarda in of the Philippine Studies Initiative at NYU. This is a testament to the longstanding commitment of the Filipino government and its representatives to fostering international partnerships and advancing education.
The Consul General expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "This donation is a symbol of the strong bonds between the Philippines and the United States. We are delighted to facilitate this historic partnership between Senator Legarda's office through the Philippine Consulate General in New York, and New York University, further enhancing the cultural and academic ties between our nations."
Dean Una Chaudhuri, Dean for the Humanities, spoke on behalf of NYU. She thanked the Philippine government and the generosity of Senator Legarda, for allowing the Philippine Studies Initiative to continue with its operations. Members of the Sulô steering committee and other NYU officials were also present to witness the simple ceremony.
Both the NYU and the Philippine Consulate General in New York look forward to the positive impact of this collaboration on the academic and cultural landscape of NYU and fostering greater understanding between the Filipino and American communities. END
