Following the declaration of a State of Emergency by New York Governor Kathy Hochul in anticipation of severe winter weather conditions, Filipino communities in the US Northeast are advised to undertake all necessary preparations and heed the warnings of local officials as a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for New York City, Long Island, and the broader Tri-State area from today, 22 February 2026 until 6:00 PM, Monday, 23 February 2026.
A major nor’easter is expected to bring heavy snowfall of up to 12-20 inches, strong winds with gusts reaching 55-60 mph, near-zero visibility, and dangerous road conditions, with possible transportation disruptions and scattered power outages.
Everyone is strongly urged to complete essential errands, secure at least two to three days’ worth of food, water, medicines, and pet supplies, fully charge mobile devices and backup batteries, avoid non-essential travel, and monitor official announcements from New York City and New York State authorities regarding transit suspensions, school or office closures, and emergency measures. Those living in coastal and low-lying areas should remain alert for possible flooding advisories.
