NEW YORK, 29 December 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Knights of Rizal New York Chapter (KOR-NY) commemorated the 128th anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Philippine Center in New York on 27 December 2024. The ceremony brought together officers and members of the Knights of Rizal, and members of the Filipino community to honor the national hero’s enduring legacy.

Consul General Sir Senen T. Mangalile, KGOR, led the tribute by emphasizing how Dr. Rizal’s principles continue to resonate with Filipinos and non-Filipinos worldwide. “Rizal is still alive indeed, but in a manner different from what many expect. He lives on through individuals and groups who champion his principles and strive to organize their lives in alignment with his teachings,” said Consul General Mangalile. “His commitment to truth, justice, and service remains a guiding light for our community.”

KOR-NY presented a special citation highlighting her steadfast support of Dr. Rizal during his exile in Dapitan, her courage and dedication as she tended to wounded Filipino revolutionaries, and her commitment to the cause of Philippine independence.

After the wreath-laying, the Knights of Rizal conducted ceremonial rites including the conferment of knighthood to new members, chartering of the new La Solidaridad chapter, and recognition of Knights who have shown exceptional commitment to upholding Rizal’s ideals.
