PH Consul General Highlights Diplomacy’s Role in Global Affairs at Regis High School Panel

NEW YORK, 22 May 2025 — Consul General Senen T. Mangalile joined a panel discussion at Regis High School as part of its Global Scholars Program, where he spoke with students about globalization and the evolving role of diplomacy in shaping today’s world. The panel gave students a unique opportunity to hear firsthand perspectives on international relations and the challenges diplomats faced in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.
Consul Diego Sandoval Pimentel of Mexico and Consul Pedro Calvo-Sotelo of Spain also took part in the discussion and shared insights from their respective diplomatic experiences. The panel was moderated by junior student Kevin Corraj.

Consul General Mangalile highlighted the Philippines’ position in the Indo-Pacific and ongoing concerns in the South China Sea. “The role of diplomacy is to ensure that communication persists, no matter how complex the disagreements may be,” he remarked, noting that sustained dialogue is key to regional stability.
He also offered advice to students interested in global affairs, stressing the importance of empathy, analytical thinking, and patriotism. “What matters most is your ability to analyze, communicate, and understand others,” he said. “You can disagree with someone without being disagreeable. That’s the essence of diplomacy.”
