Philippine Center in New York Marks 128th Independence Day with Flag Raising Ceremony
NEW YORK CITY, 12 June 2026 — Consul General Senen T. Mangalile and Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Enrique A. Manalo led the personnel of the agencies in the Philippine Center in New York in a flag-raising ceremony, commemorating the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2026.
The commemoration commenced with the singing of the Lupang Hinirang, followed by the recitation of the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat, and the playing of “One Vision, One Ocean”, the official anthem of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship.
Thereafter, the commemoration continued with the playing and reading of the Independence Day Messages of the President, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and the Secretary of Tourism. Ambassador Enrique A. Manalo then closed the ceremony with his Independence Day message, his first since his reassignment as Permanent Representative to the United Nations in September 2025, reflecting on the “brave, selfless, and costly” declaration of independence on 12 June 1898.
The ceremony served as an opportunity for the personnel at the Philippine Center to come together in fellowship and to reflect on the collective messages of the day, which centered on achieving an inclusive, accountable society grounded in democratic values and a strong sense of nationhood
