PH Country Team in New York Engages Fil-Am Media on Key Developments and Upcoming Programs
NEW YORK CITY, 09 August 2026 – The Philippine Consulate General in New York held its Media Hour with members of the Filipino-American Press Club of New York (FAPCNY) on 07 August 2026 at the Philippine Center, covering recent and upcoming Consulate initiatives and developments in trade, investment, and tourism.
Consul General Senen T. Mangalile announced upcoming programs, including the launch of the 2027 VIP Tour x Winter Escapade, the 10th Filipinnovation series, Sinehan sa Konsulado, the 14th Homecoming sa Konsulado, the annual Parol-Making Workshop, and the 38th Simbang Gabi sa Konsulado. He also looked back on key economic and political engagements, cultural diplomacy programs, and community initiatives undertaken by the Consulate since the beginning of the year.
Trade Commissioner Alma F. Argayoso of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-New York (PTIC-NY) shared the outcomes of the US Business Mission to the Philippines held in July, which brought 29 US business leaders from various sectors to explore investment and partnership opportunities in the country. Several engagements initiated during the mission have moved forward, with participants also expressing interest in follow-on visits. She also discussed upcoming trade promotion activities and efforts to strengthen the presence of Philippine products, including ube, in the US market.
On developments in the semiconductor and electronics sector, Trade Commissioner Argayoso discussed the Pax Silica initiative and opportunities for the Philippines to move into higher-value activities in the global supply chain. She emphasized the importance of infrastructure, skills development, technology transfer, research and development, and advanced manufacturing in strengthening the country’s capabilities in the sector.
Tourism Attaché Maria Corazon Jorda-Apo of the Philippine Department of Tourism-New York (PDOT-NY) noted that the US has emerged as the Philippines’ leading source market for international visitors in 2026, overtaking the Republic of Korea.
She also cited expanded air connectivity between the Philippines and the US, with Philippine Airlines set to increase its New York-Manila service in December and resume direct Chicago-Manila flights in November, while Delta Air Lines is expected to begin service to the Philippines in March 2027. She underscored the importance of partnerships with airlines and the travel trade in reaching a wider US market and promoting high-value tourism segments such as diving, health and wellness, gastronomy, and meetings and events.
During the Q&A portion, the media raised questions on trade and investment, tourism, immigration-related concerns, assistance to nationals, and other matters of interest to the Filipino-American community.
Consul General Mangalile also took the opportunity to thank FAPCNY members for their partnership, collaboration, and friendship throughout his tenure, as he prepares to turn over the leadership of the Consulate to his successor. He expressed hope that the Filipino-American media would continue to extend the same support and cooperation to the incoming Consul General.
