Magaso)On 12 June, a special flag raising ceremony was held at the Philippine Center in New York to commemorate the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence under this year’s theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.” The ceremony was participated in by the officers and staff of the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Philippine Consulate General in New York. Independence Day messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo were played. In his message, Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez called on the Filipino Community in the United States of America and the Caribbean to unite and honor the sacrifices of our ancestors who secured our nation’s sovereignty and safeguarded our national identity.  The Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Philippine Consulate General in New York pose for a photo after the flag ceremony.

PH Consulate General in New York visits Boston Metropolitan Area in Massachusetts for trade and investment opportunities The Philippine Consulate General in New York, led by Consul General Senen T. Mangalile, undertook a visit to Massachusetts on 20-21 May to explore trade and investment opportunities. The tour included high-level meetings and visits to renowned research and development (R&D) institutions to foster collaboration between the Philippines and the Boston Metropolitan Area, particularly in innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. On 20 May, the delegation met with the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion under Boston City Mayor Michelle Wu. Discussions centered on the comparative advantage of the Philippines in developing plant-based fibers such as abaca, banana, and pineapple. Boston representatives highlighted resources, including the Silklab at Tufts University, and its active partnerships with U.S.-based business incubators Sagely, Scroobious, and SeaAhead. The mission served nearly 150 Filipinos residing in Connecticut and neighboring states. The outreach mission was conducted in partnership with the Pilipino Association of Connecticut, Inc. (PACI), led by its President, Mr. Bienvenido Balaoing, and took place at the community center of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on both days. The range of consular services offered included passport application and renewal, retention and reacquisition of Philippine citizenship under RA 9225 (Dual Citizenship), civil registration, and the legalization and notarization of documents. On 18 May 2024, Post held the 11th PGrad at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center, where 12 Filipino and Filipino-American graduates were given certificates of recognition and medals of excellence.  Among them, three individuals received special recognition for graduating with Latin honors, with two achieving summa cum laude and one cum laude. On 17 May, Consul General Senen T. Mangalile proudly welcomed Samantha Kyle Catantan, a Filipina fencer representing the country at the 2024 Summer Olympics, to the Philippine Center in New York City.Ms. Catantan recently qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics during the Asia-Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifier held at Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, in April 2024.
