SENTRO RIZAL NEW YORK SHOWCASES NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR THEA GUANZON IN A BOOK DISCUSSION FEATURING HER DEBUT NOVEL “THE HURRICANE WARS”
As part of its
month-long National Women’s Month commemoration, the
Philippine Consulate General in New York under
Sentro Rizal New York hosted a book discussion on “The Hurricane Wars,” the debut
novel by Filipino national Thea Guanzon, on
08 March at the Philippine Center.
“The
Hurricane Wars” is a compelling narrative that intricately weaves the essence
of Filipino and Southeast Asian cultural elements with the universal themes of
courage, resilience, and identity. Soon after its publication in October 2023,
the book swiftly became an instant New York Times Bestseller.
The
timing of the event was particularly significant as it coincided with the celebration of
International Women’s Day.
During his
opening remarks, Consul General Senen T. Mangalile said, “As we explore the world created by Thea Guanzon and the
trials and triumphs of Talasyn, we also commemorate International Women’s Day.
This global celebration held every March 8 is a powerful reminder of the
strides we’ve made towards gender equality, as well as the challenges that
still lie ahead. It’s a day to celebrate the remarkable contributions of women
to our societies and to acknowledge their indispensable role in forging a
better world.”
During
the discussion, attendees also had the opportunity to delve into the narrative
and gain valuable insight into Ms.
Guanzon’s creative process. Fans also had the chance
to have their copies of the book personally signed
by the author, creating moments for the readers. END
