NEW YORK PCG SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON THREE FIL-AMERICAN WOMEN TRAILBLAZERS IN AN EVENING WITH DISTINGUISHED WOMEN

The Evening with Distinguished Women is an annual event held by the Philippine Consulate General in New York celebrating the contributions that women of Filipino ancestry have made to the community-at-large.

As part of its commemoration of Philippine National Women’s Month, the Philippine Consulate General in New York held “An Evening  with Distinguished Women” on 21 March 2024 at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center with the theme ““Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!”  The annual event coincided with the celebration of Women’s History Month in the United States.

 

In his opening remarks, Consul General Senen T. Mangalile noted the indispensable nature of the contributions of women to national development even as he highlighted some of the success stories in the Philippines that show women empowerment and gender equality.

 

The Consul General acknowledged the energy, enthusiasm and dynamism of women in the Filipino diaspora, and gave particular mention to the exceptional women honored that evening who had excelled in their chosen fields in science, public service and education.  This year’s honorees are:

 

Sheila Estacio Dennis, Co-founder and Lab Director, Dope Diagnostics

Lauren Lalicon, Government Policy Specialist

Venessa Manzano, Director, Filipino School of New York and

The Consul General further commended these women trailblazers for inspiring the younger Filipino-American generation and making a  significant impact through their personal and professional accomplishments.

 

Soprano Kay Habana provided a musical intermission, delivering a captivating Kundiman performance of “Bituing Marikit” and “Mutya ng Pasig,” two famous compositions by National Artist Nicanor Abelardo.  The evening event was co-emceed by Deputy Consul General Adrian Cruz and Ms. Ethel Capuno, a seasoned professional working with the United Nations Development Programme in New York.

“An Evening with Distinguished Women” is an annual event sponsored by the Philippine Consulate General in New York that serves as a platform to honor and recognize the exceptional accomplishments of Filipino American women in the Northeastern United Sates while fostering inspiration and empowerment for future generations.  END
