The Philippine Consulate General in New York extends its warmest congratulations to Francis Deinmel Legaspi and Luciano Armand Copok for winning the gold and bronze medal awards, respectively, at the finals of the 4th Copernicus Olympiad Mathematics Global Round held at Columbia University in New York on 13 July 2023.Francis, who is ten-years old, and Armand, who is fourteen years old competed alongside a hundred bright young minds from 22 countries in the global math competition held from July 9-13.  Both students travelled from the Philippines for the competition.The two winners were invited to speak at the Paaralan sa Konsulado (PSK), an annual activity hosted by the Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Association of Fil-Am Teachers in America (AFTA). PSK is a fun engagement event where children get to interact with one another and learn about their Filipino heritage. NMD Group Corp, a leading electronic payment services provider, was represented by its Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Norbell Domingo during the signing ceremony held at the Kalayaan Hall Annex of the Philippine Center.Starting from August 01, clients will have the option to make payments for consular services using credit and debit cards. Press Release 21 June 2023 Staten Island Celebrates First Philippine Independence Day Event The Philippine Consulate General in New York attended the first annual Philippine Independence Day commemoration at Staten Island last 11 June 2023. Consul General and Mrs. Senen Mangalile graced the inaugural event held at the Sacred Heart School with the presence of Staten Island Borough President Vito Fosella. The event was participated in by more than 1,000 people. The day-long festivities featured Filipino food, dance, and the celebration of Filipino heritage.The celebrations were kicked off by a mass attended by 350 people at Sacred Heart Church. Local officials that attended the event, aside from the Borough President, were Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon and former Deputy Borough President Ed Burke. Certificates of honor to the event were presented to the organizers, the Philippine Independence Celebration of Staten Island (PICOSI) composed of leaders from 14 different Filipino organizations in Staten Island. Deputy Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General in New York Adrian Cruz and wife Citadel Cruz along with NYPCG representatives and Filipino American well-wishers attended the simple rites led by Bayonne City Mayor Jimmy Davis. Mayor Davis, in his remarks, expressed the city’s gratitude to the contribution of thousands of Filipino-Americans to the city of Bayonne.
