PH Consul General in New York Presents Priorities of Philippine ASEAN Chairship to ASEAN Counterparts
NEW YORK CITY, 29 January 2026 – Consul General Senen T. Mangalile hosted a working luncheon featuring Philippine cuisine for Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Heads of Consular Missions based in New York on 28 January 2026 at the Philippine Center.
Indonesian Consul General Winanto Adi, Malaysian Consul General Norhalilah Abdul Jalil, Thai Consul General Somjai Taphaopong, and Singaporean Consul Chew Ee Lin were present at the luncheon along with other working-level consular officials.
Consul General Mangalile presented an overview of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship in 2026, including the official Chairship logo and theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” and the Philippines’ Chairship priorities namely peace and security, prosperity, and people empowerment.
The participants exchanged views on proposed activities to raise ASEAN’s profile and visibility in New York City and the U.S. Northeast, such as a commemorative event marking the 59th ASEAN Day and the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), joint calls on city officials, cultural activities, and joint activities among ASEAN diaspora communities in New York.
