Press Release PCGNY-009-202310 April 2023 U.S. NAVY VETERAN WHO FOUGHT IN THE PHILIPPINES DURING WWII HONORED New York, 10 April 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in New York (PCGNY) and Sentro Rizal New York (SRNY) commemorated “Araw Ng Kagitingan” (Day of Valor) by honoring decorated U.S. Navy Combat veteran, Arthur Grabiner, in a simple recognition ceremony at the Philippine Center on Wednesday, 05 April 2023. Mr. Grabiner, onboard USS Laurens, fought during the Allied Operations in Lingayen Gulf, Province of Pangasinan in the Philippines during World War – a critical military campaign that led to the liberation of the major island of Luzon from Japanese imperial forces.The program consisted of the awarding of honors and citations from the Filipino Veterans Recognition Project, represented by Regional Director Sonny Busa; New York City Department of Veterans’ Services represented by Deputy Commissioner Glenda Villareal Garcia and Assistant Commissioner Ellen Greeley; New York State Assemblymember Steven Raga, who is concurrently a member of the Assembly’s Veterans’ Affairs Committee; and PCGNY and SRNY.“War is an ugly thing. Press Release PCGNY-008-2023 30 March 2023 NEW YORK PCG HOSTED UNITY IFTAR AT THE PHILIPPINE CENTER The Philippine Consulate General in New York hosted a Unity Iftar event at the lobby of the Philippine Center yesterday, 29 March 2023.The event, which started at 7:00pm, was in partnership with the Kinding Sindaw Heritage Foundation, Inc. Consul General Senen T. Mangalile welcomed the participants to the event which included representatives from the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs, headed by Commissioner Edward Mermelstein. In his remarks, he mentioned that as a country of laws, the practice of ones faith is guaranteed and that by virtue of Philippine laws, the Islamic holidays of Eid’ ul Fitr and Eid’ ul Adha are Philippine national holidays. Commissioner Mermelstein extended the warm greetings of the Mayor of New York and reiterated the City’s commitment to ensure the equal protection of all its residents, including members of the Asian American community. The participants, numbering 52 people, quietly participated in the evening prayers (Maghrib) and joined in the breaking of the fast with food generously provided by Kinding Sindaw and its partners. Press Release PCGNY-007-2023 13 March 2023 “A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE” BOOK SIGNING HELD AT NEW YORK PCG The Philippine Consulate General in New York hosted a book signing session featuring Dr. Brian Poe Llamanzares and his latest book A Sustainable Future. In his remarks at the Philippine Center in New York on 10 March 2023, Dr. Llamanzares offered an optimistic and holistic perspective on the current challenges brought by climate change, and how Filipinos as stakeholders can understand and collectively address the broad range of issues on sustainability. The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) worked closely with the Philippine Consulate in making the event possible. Consul General Senen T. Press Release PCGNY-006-2022 23 February 2023 PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN NEW YORK CONDUCTS “CONSULATE SATURDAY” ACTIVITY NEW YORK – More than 100 Filipinos were served during the “Consulate Saturday” activity conducted by the Philippine Consulate General in New York on 18 February 2023 at the Philippine Center. For the first time this year, the Consulate opened its doors on a Saturday to deliver consular services to our kababayan. The activity dubbed as “Consulate Saturday” is held once every quarter of the year to accommodate Filipinos who could not miss work on weekdays. The service was held in parallel with the 9th Filipino-American Community General Assembly also held in the Philippine Center. The Consulate was open from 10:00AM until 4:00PM to provide the following services: passport application and renewal, retention and reacquisition of Philippine citizenship (dual citizenship), travel document application, notarization and certification of documents; and Overseas Voters Registration. In the wake of the Consulate’s diminished budget for Consular Outreach Missions in 2023, the Consulate intends to dedicate certain Consulate Saturday activities throughout the year to serve Filipino communities living in far-flung areas within its jurisdiction. Press Release PCGNY-005-2023 18 February 2023 CONSULATE WELCOMES FIL-AM COMMUNITY AT GENERAL ASSEMBLY The Philippine Consulate General in New York successfully hosted its 9th Filipino-American Community General Assembly on 18 February 2023 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. The General Assembly is an annual event where leaders of the Filipino-American community organizations in the US Northeast are invited to the Consulate for a report on the activities of the previous year and the calendar of activities of the current year. Consul General Senen T. Mangalile welcomed the participants who were physically present as well as those who joined virtually via Zoom. He spoke on the theme of the 9th annual General Assembly, “Strengthening Linkages Through Collaboration and Partnership”, and identified the efficient delivery of consular services and the conduct of activities that are more inclusive and representative of the diaspora’s identity as his priorities. “We will continue to give you the quality of service that you deserve as well as a set of events that are inclusive and representative of our community,” Consul General Mangalile said. Press Release PCGNY-004-2023 25 January 2023 NEW YORK PCG AND PDOT NY LAUNCHES 2023 VIP TOUR The Philippine Consulate General in New York, in partnership with the Philippine Department of Tourism’s New York Office, launched the Very Important Pinoy Tour (VIP Tour) at the Kalayaan Hall last 23 January 2023 at 5:00pm. Consul General Senen T. Mangagile welcomed the participants of the launch, composed of airline representatives, travel agencies, members of the Filipino-American press, and members from various Filipino Community Organizations. In his remarks, he encouraged everyone to join the VIP Tour, which will take place from 16 to 24 July 2023 at Manila, Iloilo, and Boracay. The VIP Tour is a major tourism activity of all Philippine foreign service posts in the U.S. The program enables Filipino-Americans and foreigners to experience Filipino culture and hospitality and immerse in the sights and sounds of various tourist destinations around the Philippines. The program, which was staged 13 times between 2004 to 2019, has seen the participation of more than 4,500 people from the different states.
